DPF Diagnosis.. The Ford Transit is back

Not long after I delivered the vehicle it came back. I really had thought I had test driven it enough, I had clocked up 100kms in 3 seperate trips.

First I closely watch the live datasteam from the scantool.

I notice with the engine at idle, the DPF pressure sensor is reading two times more than it should be indicating indeed soot accumulation

Next I confirm the scantool data with a manual gauge to test the DPF pressure sensor

Then I pull a vacuum on the fuel port at the DPF fuel vapourizer and find it is blocked.. case confirmed. But wait we are not ready to call it yet there is still a few things to check.

Mainly that the mini fuel pump for the vapourizer is working and the computer is able to control the

glow plug inside the vapourizer too.

Time to clean the vapourizer.......... Oh no its very siezed... No amount of penetrating oil and heat was getting it off, mostly because of wrench access and even though my oxygen sensor socket fitted it I could not get enough leverage to break it loose. Oh well lets buy a new one..

Once fitted I hit the road and the DPF started its own regen prcoess pretty quickly. exhaust temps exceeded 500degrees and the numbers started coming down.. It was literally cleaning itself. Very clever.
